What do You do About Insomnia?

Is it Insomnia?

Patricia Morrisroe has written a book about her experiences with insomnia called “Wide Awake: A Memoir of Insomnia”. This is a book about more than just a sleep(less) issue. This is a book about, eventually, discovering where her so-called illness comes from.

Her discovery will not be welcomed by sleep doctors, pharmaceutical companies or chronic hypochondriacs. It will be recognized, however, by people who have explored the self in a bit more detail. What did she discover?

Sleep Remedies and Reindeer!

“You are your own sleep”, quoting from an Amazon.com review written by Patricia. This she discovered after many years of trying most things that most insomniacs have tried. My favorite is one she talks about in her interview on AOL health in answer to the question as to what was her most ridiculous attempt at a sleep remedy:

Traveling to Swedish Lapland so I could see a reindeer on Christmas probably qualifies as ridiculous, too. I’d always had this idea that if I saw a reindeer on Christmas, I’d get the gift of sleep. Well, I not only saw a reindeer, I was treated to a reindeer falafel. And no, I didn’t sleep.”

One other point that I found quite illuminating for those who choose to use sleeping pills is that in her research, she found that those expensive pills provide on an average, just 11.4 minutes more sleep than a placebo!

Have Questions? Read the Book!

You may now have many questions you’d like Patricia to answer. I did, too, wanting to put some of it up here on this blog. But when I asked a couple of those questions in a short email exchange with her, she told me where I could get answers to all my questions: her book!

Enjoy the read…and learn to heal yourself!

    Hi Benjamin,
Your site has so much information on it! Ours is set up to focus on the blog part so we are not adding lots of other stuff, esp. not “Ads by Google” since they are pretty distracting and can take people off your site.
Monetizing with those ads is pretty popular, but you’d be surprised at how little income they really generate.
We are working to monetize our blog through sales of our underlying sleep-related products.

    Thanks for the trackback.

Sleep issues can certainly be a part of, or a result of, mental disorders. Hope some of your readers will come here and take a look around and some of the sleep solutions we offer.
